Champagne Alfred Gratien: Limited Edition “The Angels’ share” to celebrate 160th anniversary of Alfred Gratien
Wiesbaden, July 2024 – For 160 years, carefully and lovingly handcrafted champagnes have characterised the style of the House of Alfred Gratien. This quality is now also reflected in the first limited edition of the exclusive champagne: the Alfred Gratien Paradis Brut Rosé Millésimé 2008.
In 2024, Alfred Gratien is celebrating 160 years of excellence and ancestral know-how in the art of champagne. Since 2022, Champagne Alfred Gratien has been among the The World’s Most Admired Champagne Brands, according to the annual Drinks International Magazine survey. To mark the occasion the House announces the launch of its new limited-edition Cuvée Paradis Brut Rosé Millésimé 2008 “The Angels’ share”.
After an initial fermentation in oak barrels, the cuvée ages and develops for more than 15 years in the cellar. This limited edition is adorned with a delicate angel, a subtle allusion to the angels' share and the resting time of the House's exceptional champagnes in the cellar. In this way, each pays homage to the delicate magic of evaporation, offering an unequalled tasting experience.
Like all Alfred Gratien cuvées, Paradis Brut Rosé Millésimé 2008 is made in the purest respect for ancestral traditions: rigorous selection of grapes, vinification and ageing in small oak barrels, or the choice not to carry out malolactic fermentation. The cellar master, Nicolas Jaeger, meticulously orchestrates all these gestures. It reveals a colour that inspires elegance and maturity, with light copper highlights and an extremely fine effervescence. Being a refined rosé blend that combines the elegance and minerality of chardonnay with the fruity charisma of pinot noir, the initial nose is mature, revealing candied fruit, toast and caramel, with subtle hints of candied mandarin, saffron and juniper. A gastronomic complexity emerges, evolving towards precious wood, tonka bean and lobster bisque after aeration. The attack on the palate suggests an acidic edge and a creamy effervescence that punctuates the tasting with tone and dynamism. Dressed in chalk and a hint of salt, the texture is both tight and tender, suggesting purity. The long, sharp finish elegantly combines acidity, effervescence, salt and light bitters.
At the table, the limited edition will go perfectly with shellfish and a delicate saffron sauce, breaded langoustines, or veal fillet with chanterelles. The Alfred Gratien Paradis Brut Rosé Millésimé 2008 "La part des anges" is available from the Maison Alfred Gratien cellar shop and from wine merchants at the recommended retail price of €110 including tax.
