The new trend in sparkling wines? Henkell Freixenet captures the trend topic and rising star Crémant
Wiesbaden, August 2024 – Crémant is on the rise and set another record year for this bubbly trend: Global Crémant consumption volume increased by 3,2% in 2023. Henkell Freixenet grew faster than the total market with 16,1%. Being the code for “French sparkling wine made in the traditional champagne method but outside the champagne region”, Crémant is a style of wine that’s similar to champagne but affordable and therefore especially attractive for everyone longing for a top premium sparkling experience – especially with the season ahead. With France being the largest market for Crémant followed by Germany, the US and UK, Henkell Freixenet sees a great potential in this rising category and its prestigious crémant brand Gratien & Meyer captures the trend perfectly:
Gratien & Meyer crémant cellars were founded in Saumur in 1864. It is one of the oldest wineries in France and produces high-quality sparkling wines. In this unique setting, where vineyards, tuffeau cellars and the Loire Valley river meet, all fine bubbles have still been produced in the centuries-old cellars according to traditional values and know-how for 160 years. Hand-picked grapes guarantee the best quality, which is then processed into outstanding sparkling wine using the traditional bottle fermentation method and expertise of the cellar masters. And success proves them right: Gratien & Meyer, growing 12,6% in volume in the past year, was the number 1 internationally distributed Crémant brand worldwide in 2023. More than 120 medals and awards for the past five years for their different crémants prove the quality.

The best quality is guaranteed by hand-picked grapes and a 24-month maturation period on the lees. This crémant has a pale pink colour in the glass. On the nose, there are fresh notes of grapefruit and red berries such as redcurrant and strawberry. On the palate, the Crémant Rosé is full-bodied with plenty of freshness, accompanied by a creamy mousse. Gratien & Meyer Crémant de Loire Cuvée Diadem Rosé Brut is an excellent accompaniment to fine meat dishes or goat's cheese and best served at 10°C.
Gratien & Meyer Crémant de Loire Cuvée Diadem Blanc Brut
The elegant, distinctive bottle design also emphasises the quality standards of the Cuvée Diadem as a prestige crémant de Loire. This white crémant is light yellow in colour with a lively perlage. Its fresh bouquet is reminiscent of white flowers, lime and green apple. After a soft attack on the palate, this wine develops a lot of temperament and good drinkability. The finish is characterised by pear flavours and a spring-like delicacy and lightness.
