YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Wine Technician (m/f/o), your responsibilities include all activities on vineyards, in wine and sparkling wine cellars, at cooperatives and in bottling plants, from accepting  and processing the grapes to produce fruit juices, wines and sparkling wines to bottling and packaging.

 

TRAINING CONTENT

Practical part: You take the provided grape material and use it to manufacture a wide range of products, in the course of which you employ knowledge from a range of different fields, including mathematics (e.g. calculating cutting loss); chemistry (e.g. cleaning and disinfecting); biology (e.g. yeasts); and physics (e.g. feeding heights). Your tasks include laboratory work as well as tasting the wines and sparkling wines (with all your senses: tasting here also includes seeing and smelling). You also operate and maintain cutting-edge tools, such as grape presses, filtration and bottling systems. Theoretical part: This part comprises subjects related to the profession, including courses that convey expertise in wine technology and mathematics as well as cellar technology. All content is taught at the vocational school in Oppenheim as well as on our premises. To complete your vocational training, you will take an examination at the Wiesbaden Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Once you have obtained a general certificate of secondary education, you will be qualified to continue your education, studying Viticulture and Oenology or Beverage Technology to obtain a degree in engineering.

 

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

You have a certificate of completion of compulsory basic secondary schooling (Hauptschulabschluss or equivalent) or a general certificate of secondary education (Realschulabschluss or equivalent) with good marks and an interest in manufacturing wines and sparkling wines. Training begins on 1 August; vocational training  as a Wine Technician (m/f/o) takes 3 years.
